As darkness falls, the landscape changes. The mountains become silhouettes, the sound of the Oswalder Bach carries through the stillness, and stars gradually appear above the chalet. On clear nights with little moonlight, the Milky Way reveals itself: a shimmering ribbon stretching across the Nockberge.
Far from the glow of major cities, the darkness allows you to notice more. Countless smaller stars emerge between the brighter ones. The sky seems deeper, the space above the mountains more expansive. You look up for a moment, then realise you have been watching for much longer.
Perhaps you first notice it after a late dinner, on your way back into the chalet. Perhaps you are already in the heated outdoor pool, tilt your head back and quietly ask the others to look up. A conversation pauses. Everyone stays a little longer.
The extraordinary part is how privately you can experience it. CHALET FALK is reserved entirely for you and your guests, and the pool, terraces and balconies are all part of your own retreat. There is no need to leave the chalet to find a beautiful vantage point.
For a couple, it might be a quiet swim beneath the stars after dinner. For a family, the first time the children see the Milky Way with their own eyes. Among friends, it becomes one of those late evenings when conversation drifts, silences feel comfortable and nobody is quite ready to go inside.
You choose the company, the pace and how long to stay. That freedom gives the experience its intimacy: an immense night sky, enjoyed within the privacy of a place that is entirely yours.
The outdoor pool stays heated to around 33°C throughout the year. As the evening air cools, the contrast becomes especially inviting: warm water around you, fresh mountain air on your face and the stars overhead.
Settle into one of the integrated whirl loungers and let your gaze wander upwards. The Oswalder Bach flows beside the garden, the mountains recede into darkness and the chalet glows softly behind you. There is little reason to move.
It is a simple pleasure, yet an unusual one: to see such a remarkable sky without giving up warmth, comfort or complete privacy. And when you eventually step out of the water, the fireplace awaits indoors.
The Nockberge are among Europe’s darkest places, but every night has its own character. How clearly the Milky Way appears depends on cloud cover, moonlight and the time of year. Clear nights with little moonlight offer the best conditions.
Give your eyes a little time to adjust to the darkness. Put your phone aside, allow the view to open up and look again. Often, more stars become visible the longer you stay.
Some evenings offer only a brief glimpse between clouds. Others draw you back onto the terrace long after you thought the day was over. The experience remains part of the natural rhythm of the mountains — and that makes a truly clear night all the more memorable.
We captured one such night in the video below. It shows the Milky Way above the chalet and offers a glimpse of the vast night sky that draws us outside, time and again.
The images capture its beauty. Being here adds the warmth of the water, the coolness of the air, the sound of the stream and the presence of the people you have chosen to share it with.
Sometimes, the most beautiful experience of a stay is one you never planned. You lean back in the pool, someone beside you looks up, and for a while, nobody says a word.
